BR IGNACIO CEJA JIMÉNEZ TAKES THE OATH AS THE ORDER’S NEW VICAR GENERAL

I, Br Ignacio Ceja Jiménez, in assuming the office of Vicar General, promise to always maintain communion with the Catholic Church, both in my words and in my actions” with these words, Br Ignacio took the oath as Vicar General of the Order before the Minister General, Br Massimo Fusarelli, the Definitory and the friars of the Community of the General Curia.

The oath was taken during the celebration of First Vespers of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity in the General Curia Church in Rome on 12 June 2022. Before the oath of office, Br Massimo Fusarelli, Minister General, addressed these words to the new Vicar: “Dear Br Ignacio, called to serve the Order as Vicar General, you have once again said your ‘here I am‘. You have pronounced it since the beginning of your Franciscan life and repeated it on various occasions during your journey, and today a new ‘here I am’ is asked of you, also outlining the role of the Vicar. “Your presence, discreet and fraternal, will help carry out our service in the Definitory. It will be a help for this House where the Vicar is usually more present than the Minister. You will also help in dealing prudently, and with an eye to the future with the various issues we are called to face in our service of animation and government of the whole Order”.

Br Ignacio Ceja Jiménez was elected Vicar General on 13 May, following the appointment of Br Isauro Covili Linfati as Bishop of Iquique, Chile, who had been elected by the General Chapter.
